issue 12 of UPPERCASE is out and about.
i was especially excited about this issue (and yes, i know i say that EVERY TIME)
BUT, this issue is different.
(there is another 2 page spread once you flip the page)
for a while (i think, since issue 3 or 4) Janine has been gently asking to include Papier Valise in an issue. i kept talking myself out of it because i thought i couldn't possibly showcase the massive amounts of paper items (+ other geegaws) in a way for UPPERCASE readers to enjoy. the glamorous side of things is all of the paper. and the geegaws. the unglamorous side of things is also where all of this paper is stored. and the geegaws.
Last fall Janine mentioned that Issue 12 would be " the paper issue". and so it was that i could no longer resist.
it was on a lovely grey November afternoon that Janine stopped by to photograph the paper stash. we spent an enjoyable few hours chatting about paper loves and interests. and i am so pleased with how everything looks in the magazine.
it is a very tactile experience to hold an issue of UPPERCASE in your hands--first you have to look at the spine and see what the color pattern is this time around. nevermind that irresistable wrap around red label with the issue number within. then you have to fan open the pages to get a whiff of that "hot off the press" smell. then you might find yourself caressing the front cover, because the paper UPPERCASE is printed on is wonderful--a thick, luscious high quality paper.
--this issue even includes (for pre-Jan 4th subscribers) a plantable letterpress sample from Porridge Papers. except i know my sample is going lickety split onto my inspiration board because, well, it is my favorite shade of green AND it is letterpress. enough said.
if you love paper THIS is the issue for you. without a doubt. there is an array of wonderful paper enthusiasts--from artists (origami and otherwise), paper purveyors, even paper reps. so many interesting folks.
single issues + subscriptions available here......
